Yizhen Huang

I dreamt a dream of me dreamt a dream

Yizhen Huang is a Chinese artist whose practice emphasizes the relationship between inner self of human individuals and the outside world. She employs a diverse variety of mediums such as oil paint, handmade paper, sculptural materials and constantly experiment with non-traditional mediums in corporation to her artwork. Yizhen Huang focuses on color and composition in the creating process and strives for creating visually intriguing images.

Born in Zhangjiagang, China in 1998, Yizhen Huang came to United States for her bachelor’s degree. She has received trainings in multiple disciplines of fine art: oil painting, sculpture, papermaking, graphic design and fashion design. She attempts to broaden the conceptual background of traditional illustration, in combining with sociological and political thoughts. Many of her inspirations are drawn from her own experience or observation of the world. In her previous works, Yizhen Huang has worked with themes on perception and distortion, supervision, Chinese cultural revolution, eating disorder, and philosophical concepts. Through her works, Yizhen envions to initiate a dialogue with the viewers into questioning our perceptions or establish knowledge about the world that we have taken for granted.
